TELEVISION personality Helen McDermott accidentally handed over her purse when she was giving out “goodie bags” at the Suffolk Show.

She was helping out at the East Anglian Air Ambulance stand when the mishap happened.

Ms McDermott had put her multi-coloured purse in one of the plastic “goodie bags” being offered to show-goers at Trinity Park.

But she mistakenly handed out the bag, presenting an unwitting visitor to the stand with her purse, which contains her credit cards, press card, and driving licence as well as money. She said she spent the rest of the day cancelling her cards and chasing plastic bags.

The broadcaster, famed for her work on Anglia Television, said she had reported the incident to police, who said it was quite unusual for someone to hand over their purse voluntarily - but added they were hopeful the person would realise when they returned home and would hand it in.

She said: “We have given out several thousand bags. I've been to the police and spent the rest of the day looking at plastic bags.”
