Suffolk explorer Bartholomew Gosnold was instrumental in founding the first English-speaking colony in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607, and last year marked a host of anniversary celebrations both sides of the Atlantic. Breakfast show presenter Mark Murphy flew out to Jamestown, Virginia, to join and broadcast the celebrations.
The Sony Radio Academy Awards - the industry's “Oscars” - saw Radio 2 Russell Brand win his first Sony, scooping the Entertainment Award, while Suffolk-based broadcaster Simon Mayo beat John Humphrys to Speech Broadcaster of the Year.
Radio 1's Chris Moyles won a Sony Gold for best Breakfast Show and Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 won the Music Radio Personality Award.
Radio 4 won UK Station of the Year, putting Radio 2, the UK's most popular station, in second place.
Dermot O'Leary, originally from Colchester, beat fellow Radio 2 DJ Johnnie Walker to the Music Programme award.
