A 40-YEAR-OLD Ipswich man has been found guilty of stealing a radio.

Mark Crawford was filmed stealing the £350 walky-talky radio, belonging to Ipswich Borough Council, by a CCTV camera in the reception area of the Civic Centre, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Crawford, of Willoughby Road, Ipswich, denied stealing the radio but was found guilty by a jury after a short trial.

After his conviction the court heard that last month Crawford was found guilty of handling stolen goods and attempting to obtain money by deception by another jury at Ipswich Crown Court.

He will be sentenced for those offences and for the theft of the radio on May 17.

During yesterday's trial Andrew Shaw, prosecuting, claimed that Crawford was caught on camera stealing the radio from a trolley that had been left in the Civic Centre reception.

Crawford denied stealing the radio and claimed he had gone to the Civic Centre to apologise to staff after losing his temper in the Housing Department the previous day.

He said he apologised to a security guard and a woman in the Housing Office and had left the building.

Cross examined by Mr Shaw, Crawford denied having a grudge against staff at the Council and stealing the radio to get money for accommodation.
