A tractor pulling a trailer has crashed into a railway bridge in Suffolk, causing disruption for travellers on the mainline through Suffolk and Essex.

Greater Anglia reported delays to its services through Stowmarket “due to a vehicle hitting a bridge in this area”.

British Transport Police said it was alerted to a bridge strike in Bacton at 12.05pm involving a tractor and trailer.

“Network Rail are on route and trains are travelling under caution through the area,” a spokesman added.

Services affected include the 10.30am London Liverpool Street to Norwich service, and the 11.30am Norwich to London Liverpool Street service.

Suffolk police have been asked whether any roads have been closed as a result of the accident.

It is not known whether anyone was injured in the crash or how long the rail services will be disrupted.
