Ipswich Town Football Club has become the first club in the country to offer followers the chance to start their day by chomping into a slice of ITFC-branded toast.

Club retail manager Elaine Hull said: “As soon as we saw it we thought the toaster was a great idea and knew the supporters would love it.

“It's a great item - it is produced especially for us so it is basically a bespoke product. There is nothing else like it.”

And it looks like they have scored a success with fans - the club's Portman Road shop sold out of the product on the day they were launched, when Ipswich played at home against Bristol City.

The toaster retails at £44.95 and Mrs Hull said: “We know it is expensive for a toaster but it is like nothing we have seen before - as well as burning the initials it has a motorised bread carriage.

“You don't press a lever down like you do with a normal toaster - you press a button and the motor lowers the toast, and raises it when it is done.

“People think it is expensive when they hear about it but when they see it they all say 'I've got to have it'.”

Town fans are the first in the country to have the chance to get their hands on the product but other clubs are expected to launch their own versions in the near future.

Mrs Hull refused to comment on rumours that Norwich City will produce a model in which the toast will go down but not come up again.

The toaster can be purchased at any of the three Planet Blue stores, at Portman Road, Buttermarket in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.

They can also be ordered by telephoning 01473 400501 or online at shop.itfc.co.uk.
