Ramraiders have struck at a Stowmarket town centre shop for the second time in six months.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a van reversed into Sportskit on Wilkes Way and two men were seen to get out and begin stealing stock at around 8.45pm yesterday.

The store in the town's Meadow Centre was last hit in a similar style in September last year, stealing thousands of pounds worth of clothing.

The vehicle this time is described as a small white box van and police are eager to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or seen anything suspicious. Anyone with information should call Stowmarket CID on 01473 613500.

Stowmarket has a long, sad history as a target for ramraiders.

Urgent calls for CCTV, which has yet to be installed in the town centre, greeted a daring smash and grab raid involving a JCB digger.

Thieves scooped the cash machine from the wall at the TSB Bank in Ipswich Street in September 1998.

Just two months later, ramraiders struck again at Le Tempo video store, making off up to £7,000 of games and videos.
