FORMER Ipswich Town defender Titus Bramble has been questioned by police investigating an alleged sex attack at his home, it emerged today.

Two men, aged 22 and 24, both from the Ipswich area, were arrested on suspicion of rape following the allegation and have now been released on bail following questioning by police.

Bramble, who played 152 games for Ipswich before his £5million transfer to Newcastle in July 2002, was spoken to after a 24-year-old woman claimed she was attacked by one man as another watched.

The allegation was said to have been made after Bramble had a night out on Newcastle's Quayside with his brother, Tesfaye, 26, a Stockport County player and pals from the Ipswich area. It is understood the men arrested are friend's of Tesfaye Bramble. Neither of the Bramble brothers were among the men arrested.

The group are the believed to have returned with a number of women to Titus Bramble's plush house £500,000 detached home in the village of Medburn, near Ponteland, Northumberland, on Sunday night.

A few hours later a woman left the house, in what was said to be in a distressed state.

By 5am on Monday her father complained to Northumbria Police she had been raped. Detectives from the Northumberland command area are investigating the allegation.

They are also looking into the possibility that the woman's drink may have been spiked during the night out.

Bramble, 25, and his brother were brought up at the family home in Ipswich. Titus was interviewed as a potential witness and not as a possible suspect.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman confirmed a complaint of sexual assault had been made.

She said: "Police are investigating an allegation of rape at an address in Medburn in Ponteland by a 24-year-old woman.

"Two men aged 22 and 24 have been arrested. They have been released on police bail."

A Newcastle United spokesman said: "This is not a club matter so we have no comment to make."
