Rape inquiry launched in Ipswich

POLICE are today investigating the rape of a teenager on a playing field beside an Ipswich high school.The girl was attacked on Friday evening after she returned to playing field next to Thurleston High School in the north west of the town to look for her mobile phone.

The girl was attacked on Friday evening after she returned to playing field next to Thurleston High School in the north west of the town to look for her mobile phone.

She had earlier been on the field as part of a large group of youngsters who had drunk alcohol there.

Police said the 16-year-old victim was traumatised by the attack and had only been able to give a vague description of her attacker.

Det ch insp John Quinton, who is leading the hunt said: "This was a despicable attack on a young vulnerable girl."

He urged anyone who may have any information about the attack to contact the police on 01473-613500.
