EXCLUSIVE

CONVICTED rapist Steven Beech, who has been lodging at Ipswich Police Station, has finally left Suffolk.

The 38-year-old serial sex offender was given a police escort out of the county this afternoon.

Residents, who have been outraged that a notorious sex attacker had been moving freely in their midst, can now breath a sigh of relief although Beech's current whereabouts are now unknown.

A police spokesman was unable to say where Beech had gone.

Fury has been levelled at the costs in excess of £2,000-a-week that Suffolk police have been forced to spend to ensure the sex attacker does not reoffend because of the danger he poses to women.

The Midlands-born sex fiend, who has 115 convictions, mainly for sex crimes, had been trailed round-the-clock by two plain-clothes policemen while he stayed in a cell at the Civic Drive headquarters of Ipswich police since Tuesday last week.

After his cover was blown on Monday this week, he revealed how he had visited pubs and ate at fast-food restaurants.

Ipswich residents have been counting the days for the dangerous sex criminal to go.

In 1992, Beech gained notoriety when he was jailed for nine years for the rape of a 66-year-old housekeeper in London. He made legal history in October 2000 when he became the first person to become subject to a sex offender's order banning him from pestering women. He broke it within three days.
