A PAIR of EastEnders-loving pet rats have been stolen from a Needham Market garden.

Their distraught owner, 25-year-old Leanne Evans said: "I don't think thieves wanted the rats, they were most likely after the cage which was quite expensive."

Leanne, from John Swain Close, rescued the rats – both called Ratty – after a pet shop said they had grown too big to sell.

"I have rescued a lot of pets, including a cat and a rabbit. The cat got on very well with both of the rats. In fact we used to sit on the sofa and watch TV together. They especially liked EastEnders," said Leanne.

But she is hoping the last laugh will be with the rodents.

She said: "One of the rats had a contagious skin condition which meant you could only handle it with gloves on. If anyone comes in contact with it they should go to the doctors."
