ARE you scared of heights? Do you fancy walking off the top of Ipswich Hospital?

Well if you do today the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is challenging people to sign up to take part in an abseil down the hospital's maternity building on July 12 and 13.

The charity, which is supported by this year's Ipswich and Suffolk Press Ball, is inviting people across the region to take part in this 100ft, straight rope, free air abseil.

Sandra Howarth, spokeswoman for the CFT said: “By taking part in this challenge you will be making a difference to the lives of 8,000 babies, children and young adults who have Cistic Fibrosis.”

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It funds research to treat and cure CF and aims to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease. The condition is caused by a single defective gene.

As a result, the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, become clogged with thick sticky mucus resulting in chronic infections and inflammation in the lungs and difficulty digesting food.

Each week five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis and three young people die - 90per cent from lung damage. Average life expectancy is just 31, although improvements in treatments mean a baby born today is expected to live longer.
