RECORD numbers turned out for the annual charity Bank Holiday fun run in Felixstowe.

More than 300 runners put their best feet forward to see how many times they could run around the mile circuit within an hour.

People of all ages took to the roads leading from the Spa Pavilion in Felixstowe to clock up laps of a course laid out by Felixstowe Rotary Club.

Mayor Harry Dangerfield raised the flag of St George to start the fun run which featured adults and children many who were in fancy dress.

The hour-long event was held on Felixstowe seafront as part of the Rotary Road Races which celebrated its 23rd anniversary.

Chairman Dave Richardson said: "It was perfect conditions for the runners and we are extremely pleased with what looks to be like a record turn out.

"Every year we receive a lot of support which helps us continue with our good work and we are optimistic that we will match last year's total of £4,000."

Sponsorship money will be divided between charities of the runners' choice and those supported by event organisers The Rotary Club of Felixstowe.

Around 16 junior members of the Felixstowe and Walton United Football Club also took part in the run and were joined by a group of Dutch footballers who were in Felixstowe on tour.

The road races were sponsored by the Car Centre of Crescent Road, Felixstowe and also included a five-mile race for the Senior County Championship series.
