Fire fighters helped the RSPCA release a red stag that was attached to an electric fence by its antlers.

A fire engine from Princes Street and a rescue vehicle were called to Grundisburgh Road, Tuddenham at 9.31am.

The frightened animal had become more entangled by its antlers after thrashing around to try and free itself.

Four firefighters held the deer down while others cut it free from the fencing.

The animal was free by 9.58am, and was uninjured.

RSPCA chief inspector Mark Thompson said: “This was a really strong adult deer who was also frightened and panicked.

“It’s so important that anyone who finds a deer in a situation like this contacts the RSPCA or another rescue organisation and doesn’t try to free the animal by themselves for their own safety as well as that of the deer.”
