RAIL passengers using the Ipswich and Stowmarket stations will be greeted by more lavish surroundings in future after Anglia Railways announced a new £150,000 investment programme.

Waiting rooms, toilets and booking offices are all set to benefit from facelifts to improve standards of cleanliness and comfort for passengers.

The major refurbishment programme will also see station interiors repainted and waiting rooms given new carpets and upholstered seats.

Platform seating will be repainted and station toilets refurbished with more modern facilities, such as new toilet pans and tiles that are less vulnerable to vandalism.

In addition, station signage and advertising displays will be improved, with the Ipswich station benefiting from improved lighting in the booking hall.

Diss and Norwich stations will also benefit from the investment programme.

Peter Meades, of Anglia Railways, said: "It is important that our busy mainline stations present a smart, professional image of the company and a welcoming environment for passengers."

"This major investment will bring our station facilities right up to scratch, creating a pleasant atmosphere for people passing through them."
