A LONG-established regatta is to be relaunched in June.

The Woodbridge Regatta will set sail once more after a chequered history recently in which it was not held in three out of the last 10 years.

The event will be on June 8 and the fun-packed day will start at 12noon with well-known seafaring personality Frank Knights officially opening it at 1.45pm outside Eversons Boatyard.

All the usual regatta events will take place including yacht, dingy and tender racing, walking the greasy pole, a children's crabbing competition and river boat trips.

The 1st Woodbridge Scout Group is organising the raft races and there will be plenty of land-based activities to keep all the family entertained.

The first regatta is believed to have been held in 1784 although some historians date its beginning in 1838.
