THE East of England Regional Assembly - branded “expensive, unnecessary and unaccountable” by critics - is being scrapped less than 10 years after it was created.

Last night, Essex North MP Bernard Jenkin welcomed the move, saying Essex was big enough to “enjoy a direct relationship with government”.
