TWO bystanders have today been praised for their parts in trying to rescue a man and woman from a burning bungalow.
The fire broke out at a home in Peterborough on Saturday at about 3.30pm.
The two people inside, a man and a woman, died in the blaze despite the efforts of two bystanders to rescue them.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said a full investigation by the fire service and police officers is now taking place.
She said: “Two other people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. It is understood that they tried to enter the bungalow to rescue the occupants.”
Lynn Betteridge, Incident Commander for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service added: “This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the families of the man and woman.”
