AN Ipswich centenarian who puts her longevity down to not smoking, swearing or drinking has celebrated her milestone birthday.

Rena Daniels was born on December 3, 1908 in Cumbria.

The great-grandmother trained as a nurse and moved to Suffolk when she took up a position at the Ipswich and East Suffolk Hospital in Ipswich in 1934.

Three years later, Rena, nee Graham, married Jack Daniels, a sign writer, guilder and double bass player.

After moving to York for ten years, the couple and their two daughters returned to Ipswich in 1950.

Rena, who is a committed Christian and has been a worshipper at St Margaret's Church for many years, attended keep-fit classes at the town hall until she was 93.

She has belonged to the Mother's Union since 1953 and has canvassed for the Conservative Party.

Rena, of Sunfield Close, was joined by family and friends at a 100th birthday party at Gresham sports club in Tuddenham Lane.

Daughter Suzie said: “It was fantastic.

“She has been partying ever since - she went to bed at midnight and then to a carol service the next day.”
