A SECURITY guard was hit in the face today with the butt of a handgun in a almost identical replica of an armed robbery which took place 12 weeks ago to the day.

Two men wearing balaclavas attacked a Securicor van outside Lloyds TSB in Nacton Road, Ipswich, at around 9.30am.

Witnesses recalled seeing the man fighting with the guard who later had to be taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment to an eye injury.

The robbery was a replica to one on a Securicor van outside the same bank on Friday, November 18 at almost exactly the same time (10.10am), involving three men.
