After nearly a year of construction the new community library opens its doors to the public, boasting a futuristic design and layout as well as a calendar of fun and educational events.

The new 1.4 million library includes a caf serving drinks and light refreshments, a community garden and a digital sound studio.

The building's prominent green stainless steel rotunda sets it apart from the old Gainsborough Library which stood in the same spot in Clapgate Lane and served the community for more than 70 years.

Funding for the project was provided by the Big Lottery Fund as part of its community libraries programme.

Library manger Mandy Grimwood said: “The people of Gainsborough have been hugely supportive and patient during the time that the new library was built.

“I have no doubt that the success of this project is due to their involvement from the start.”
