IPSWICH: Neighbours of a potential new fire station near Ravenswood took the chance to look at proposals for the new centre which could replace the Colchester Road.

Suffolk County Council is considering moving the fire station to offer better coverage for south-east Ipswich, Kesgrave and Martlesham - and has identified the Ravenswood area as ideal.

The Princes Street fire station would remain to cover central Ipswich and the west of the town.

The proposals were shown off to members of the public from the immediate area, and across Ipswich, at a special open evening at the Holiday Inn at the Havens at Ransomes Europark.

Deputy chief fire officer Mark Sanderson said: “It was very worthwhile. We would like to have seen more people, but I am sure we will get more at next week's meeting at Colchester Road.”

There is another evening session next Thursday at the Colchester Road Fire Station between 7pm and 9pm to enable more people to find out how any change would affect them.
