PUPILS who went to a Suffolk school in the 1960s are hoping to get together again for a special reunion.

Although Butley Secondary Modern School was demolished several years ago the spirit of friendship among those who attended the school near Woodbridge is as strong as ever.

Youngsters from villages over a wide area of east Suffolk attended the school including those from Bawdsey, Alderton, Hollesley, Eyke, Sutton, Orford, Sudbourne, Tunstall and Blaxhall.

Some of the pupils are now living abroad but keep in touch through the internet and are hoping to return to Suffolk for the reunion being planned for September 13, 2003.

One of the event's organisers, Terry Friend, of Leiston, said: "Some former pupils are coming from the United States to be at the reunion.

"We would like to see as many former pupils as possible attend the event which is being held at Butley Village Hall."

It is thought that if enough people come forward a large marquee could be erected on the playing field next to the hall.

The school was a popular secondary modern during the 1960s and early 1970s before it became a middle school with pupils then going on to Farlingaye High School at Woodbridge.
