THEY will be looking back to a time of nylon shirts, pointy collars, wide-bottomed trousers and long hair when a group of old schoolfriends get together this week.

For a reunion is being held those who left Orwell High School in Felixstowe in 1977 – and who are all about to be or have just become 40-somethings!

Organiser Dawn Warren hopes as many old friends as possible will turn up for the occasion, which is being held at her seafront business, The Warren Tea Rooms in Sea Road, Felixstowe.

"I didn't enjoy my schooldays at all! The best days of my life were the day I left Orwell and now," said Dawn.

"I am not sure everyone feels like that though. We are having just a small gathering because we thought it would be a good time to meet up again, and we may well have a bigger one in the future.

"One or two people moved away from the town, some of them because of their jobs, but lots of people from our year are still in Felixstowe and you do see them from time to time."

The reunion will take place on Thursday November 22 at 7.30pm.

There are still places available and anyone who would like to join in should contact Dawn on 01394 272844 (day) or 01473 685773 (evenings), or Angela Banham on 01394 271621.

The last reunion held for the 1977 year was a few years back at the Manor House Club in Manor Road and was very well attended with all those present enjoying a great nostalgic night catching up with old friends, reminiscing, and swapping stories.

It is now 24 years since they said their farewells to their teachers and schoolbooks – except those who stayed on for sixth form – and most are hitting 40.

Some of them recently celebrated another milestone when they attended an event to mark 50 years of Causton Junior School in Maidstone Road, Felixstowe – one of the feeder schools for Orwell.

"Some of our old school teachers came along there and it was really strange seeing them again after all those years," added Dawn.
