EVERYONE was riding high at the first ever Suffolk Cycle Show which turned out to be a real family occasion.

Cycling need not be such an individual affair in future with the family bike as the star of the show.

With room for an adult and two children the new design has child seats at front and rear and there is even an extra set of pedals so budding young cyclists can help drive the front wheel.

With the sun burning down as an added attraction, organisers said the day was a huge success attracting a steady flow of people to its base at Foxhall Stadium on Sunday.

Elmy Cycles owner Steve Grimwood told The Evening Star: "People really appreciated the opportunity to be able to test ride bikes they usually wouldn't be able to.

"Some of the visitors even went home to watch the football or have their Sunday roast and returned later in the afternoon.

"Manufacturers really got behind the event and helped to make it such a good day and a lot of people took a new bike home with them."

As well as the family bike, tandems also proved to be very popular and the trials display team entertained the crowd with a routine of skilful tricks.

Steve said: "The show was such a great success that there are plans to run it again around the same time next year."

The event was one of thousands around the country for National Bike Week which is part of the UK's nation wide 'celebration of cycling' running until June 23.
