RESIDENTS on an Ipswich estate have labelled their road as a potential "death track" after a motorcyclist was in collision with a car during rush hour traffic.

The junction of Whitton Church Lane and Old Norwich Road was closed off when the crash between the motorcycle and a Hyundai car took place.

The narrow road was closed off for around 45 minutes while the emergency services worked to clear the area.

Ambulance crews took the rider to Heath Road hospital to be treated for injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

However residents living in the area said it was just an accident waiting to happen.

The circumstances of this particular crash have not yet been released and it is not known whether either vehicle was speeding, but people living at the Shakespeare Road end of the town said that regardless of the accident, the road is becoming like a racetrack.

Resident Roger Durrant did not see the crash take place but he said that cars often come swinging around the corner.

He said: "The way they race up and down here is unbelievable.

"I have seen people doing more than 70mph up here while they are using their mobile phones."

Mr Durrant said the long, straight road that leads from Norwich Road onto Whitton and Castle Hill estates is a convenient short cut for many people and is turning into a rat run.

He said: "You get all the kids coming down here on their way back from school.

"The cars come swinging round that corner and people just don't look.

"They have put speeding measures in Shakespeare Road when it is down here we need them – it is a death track."

Another resident, who lives close to where the crash is believed to have taken place said: "People do go very quick along here.

"There is also not enough room for two cars along there."
