Work to replace traffic lights and move a road crossing at the Clapgate Lane/Landseer Road junction in east Ipswich is due to start at the end of the month.

Engineers will move on to the junction on October 30 and the work is expected to take six weeks to complete.

It is the first of five road improvement schemes to be carried out over the winter after the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership linked up with Suffolk County Council to provide £5m of funding for schemes aimed at speeding up traffic and making roads safer for pedestrians and motorists.

All the schemes are due to be completed by May next year – but there is expected to be disruption to traffic while the work is going on.

The other junctions to be affected are Nacton Road/Maryon Road junction, the Nacton Road/Rands Way junction, St Augustine’s roundabout through to Sainsbury’s on Felixstowe Road and the Foxhall Road/Heath Road roundabout.
