POLICE today issued descriptions of callous attackers who poked their bespectacled victim in the eyes before making off with his glasses, wallet and mobile phone.

Three thieves left their 45-year-old victim sightless and bleeding after the attack in a car park close to the Woolpack pub yesterday .

The Ipswich man was walking along Soane Street at 1.30am when his would-be attacker approached him asking for a cigarette.

Despite telling him he didn't smoke, the man followed his victim into Bolton Lane asking him this time for a light.

After again refusing him, the attacker continued to walk with his soon-to-be victim along Westerfield Road.

Just past the Woolpack, the victim was pushed into a car park and held against the wall when his attacker was joined by two others – both wearing hooded jackets.

The victim was poked in the eyes while the trio frisked him from behind stealing his wallet, mobile phone and glasses before all three made off towards Tuddenham Road.

The first attacker is described as white, 6ft tall of slim build and in his late teens. The other two males, seen only as they ran off, wore hooded tops.

Police are asking anyone in the area at the time who may have seen something to contact Dc Derek Riley at Ipswich CID on 01473 383133.
