POLICE are hunting robbers who kicked a teenager to the ground and demanded cash.

The 18-year-old victim needed hospital treatment for injuries to the face, head and arms after he was set upon in Newmarket High Street.

Police say the attack happened as the teenager left Deniros nightclub at around 3am on Saturday.

He walked towards Lloyds Bank, intending to withdraw some money but changed his mind because several people were congregated around the machine.

Moments later, as he cut through an alleyway leading off the High Street towards Market Square, he was attacked from behind and forced to the ground. His attackers demanded money and kicked him until he handed over cash.

The shocked victim managed to hail a taxi and was taken to Newmarket Hospital, where he was treated for bruising and later sent home.

Detective Constable Stuart Williams said: "This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on a young man and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"We would particularly like to speak with the taxi driver who could have some vital information to help with our investigation and we would urge him to contact us immediately."

Anyone who can help should contact DC Williams on 01284 774100 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
