THREE men have been released on bail while police investigate allegations of robbery and assault in Newmarket.

THREE men have been released on bail while police investigate allegations of robbery and assault in Newmarket.

Officers are also investigating whether any sexual assault took place on an 18-year-old woman when she and her male friend were said to have been set upon.

The incident occurred yesterday morning when police were contacted about an altercation in Newmarket High Street just after 5am.

The teenager and her friend are believed to have been assaulted in The Avenue.

Police are currently working to determine exactly what occurred.

Four men were arrested following the incident.

A 31-year-old man, from London, and a 31-year-old man, from Essex, have now been released on police bail to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on February 13.

A 26-year-old man from Essex, has also been released on police bail to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on March 3.

The fourth man, a 37-year-old from Middlesex, received a caution for obstructing a constable.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between around 4.30am and 5.30am yesterday.
