A library in Ipswich is being refurbished with a new public toilet, an extension for extra storage and fresh kitchen facilities.

The 112-year-old Rosehill Library, in Tomline Road, will be shut for five weeks from June 5 so the work can take place.

The car park at the library will also be closed from May 8 to allow preparations to be carried out.

The revamp is being funded by Suffolk County Council, and it will include the fitting of new carpet.

A spokesman for Suffolk Libraries said: “We apologise for the inconvenience, particularly for the long closure period, but the work planned is important and it will not be possible to maintain safe access for staff and customers during the work. The plan will mean the library is open for the spring half term and will reopen in time for the Summer Reading Challenge.”

During the closure customers can use any other library, with the nearest being Gainsborough and Ipswich County.

Any library loans due back during the closure period will be automatically extended.

The regular children’s centre groups and child health clinics will not be running at the library during the work.

Both the library and car park will reopen during the week of July 10.
