MOVES to improve safety on the A140 near the junction with the A14 are set to be introduced in the early spring.

Suffolk County Council is set to officially introduce orders introducing a new 50mph speed limit and closing one of two gaps in the central reservation.

The moves have already been backed by local parish councils and the police, and are set to be endorsed by the county's traffic management sub-committee next Thursday.

Traffic from the B1078 from Coddenham will be unable to turn right on to the A140 after the closure of the southern gap in the dual carriageway.

It will have to turn left and go round the Beacon Hill roundabout to head north towards Norwich.

Southbound traffic on the A140 will have a 50mph limit along the dual carriageway to ensure traffic heading towards the Coddenham turn isn't going too fast.

And the slip road for traffic heading from Ipswich and Needham Market towards Coddenham will be extended – the gap to allow that traffic to reach the B1078 will be retained.

Once the orders are approved by the sub-committee work to install the changes is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
