Beer festival organisers are preparing to pull the pints from tomorrow night as the Saints Oktoberfest in Ipswich will bring all things Bavarian to town.
Ipswich-based brewers Beer&Co. is hosting the traditional German-style festival on Friday and Saturday, with sessions running from 5-8pm and 9pm-midnight at St Peter’s by the Waterfront.
The firm has organised traditional Bavarian beers on tap served in traditional steins, alongside wines and street food stalls featuring bratwurst, sauerkraut and pretzels.
Alongside the beers will be performances and sing-along with a traditional oompah band, with festival revellers encouraged to come dressed in their finest lederhosen and traditional outfits.
Festival organiser Greg Cooper, said: “The festival will be great fun and have an authentic German atmosphere, with Bavarian beer served in steins, and street food including bratwurst, sauerkraut and pretzels – all held within a stunning medieval church.”
Employees at insurance firm LV= have volunteered their time to help pull the pints behind the bar, in support of local charity Papworth Trust.
Mr Cooper added: “We are so thrilled to be working with local charitable partners Papworth Trust for Saints Oktoberfest 2017.
“It follows the event’s hugely successful debut last year which our customers absolutely loved.”
Jo Revitt, corporate partnership fundraiser at Papworth Trust, added: “Our Ipswich centres have a special place in the local community and it is so amazing to have the support of local businesses for what will be a fabulous fundraising event.”
The Saints Oktoberfest kicks off a packed six weeks of German beer festival fun, with a further two Oktoberfests heading to town.
On October 6 and 7 the Corn Exchange will be hosting its third annual festival, with the event being expanded to two days for the first time.
Then on October 27 and 28, Christchurch Mansion will come alive with activity as the national Oktoberfest rolls into Ipswich.
An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said: “We welcome the Oktoberfests into Ipswich as it adds to the attractions of the town in the Autumn and we hope they all prove to be a success.”
