Santa took time out of his busy yearly schedule to spread a serious message on his visit to the seaside town yesterday.

Father Christmas was invited to the town by Plastic-Free Felixstowe to help raise awareness of their efforts to reduce plastics and remove plastics from the town and the environment.

Enjoying the sites of the town, Santa arrived by ferry from Harwich and was transported via rickshaw to the pier to sit in his summer grotto and meet with the hundreds of children who attended the event.

The day was designed to help engage youngsters with the environmental message, something that many did as they joined Santa for a litter pick on the beach.

Former Ipswich Town player Mick Mills was also at the event signing items for the children and talking about the environment.

Debbie Bartlett from Plastic Free Felixstowe said: “I hope it did inspire a lot of people.”

The event also raised £80 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) through collected donations.
