A VISIT from Father Christmas, raffle and disco were some of the treats in store at a grand Christmas party organised by the Greenwich Community Group.

A hundred people from the estate turned up to the two-hour event at Orwell Junior School on Thursday evening – there was just a 50 p charge on the door.

One of the organisers, who didn't want to be named, said: "We wanted to do what we can for the residents to make them feel part of the community. It was to raise the community spirit because estate has had a lot of bad press in the past.

Amanda Parrish, treasurer of the Greenwich Community Group and acting vice chair, said: "It was held to bring everyone together. Children came along too and had a wonderful time.

"Father Christmas turned up half way through and there was also the raffle where most of the children won prizes."

The disco was organised by the play centre and people could also tuck in to a buffet.
