IT was a time for celebrating at an Ipswich school as it took a trip down memory lane, first to the 1950s and then to the 1940s.

Pupils at the Clifford Road Primary School marked the Queen's jubilee with a tea party and talent show.

It was due to be held outside but because of wind and rain plans were changed to allow the party to go ahead inside.

The school was decked out in Union Jacks and bunting as they celebrated the 50-year anniversary of the Queen's coronation.

And the school underwent another transformation the following day as it took a step back in time to the victorious days of the end of the Second World War.

The WW2 Victory Open Day, this year's fundraising event for the Ipswich Air Raid Shelter Museum, saw people dressed in 1940s attire, determined to give it a true wartime feel, take part in a fashion show.

A victory tea shop was open to provide refreshments and wartime music filled the air, which was accompanied by a sing-a-long later in the day.

In the main hall there was an impressive flying display by model aircraft and there was also the chance to check out the air raid shelter at a reduced price.

As well as all this there were quizzes, games, a barbecue selling home-made burgers and stalls selling a range of items, including the things the school's Year 5 pupils had made as part of a recent enterprise project.

Dorothy Dunnell, who helped organise the event at the Ipswich school, said: "Year 5 are directly involved in the open day and we hope that the rest of the pupils will have come along to support us.

"We've had a lot of community involvement as well."

The air raid shelter is open at the school during the first weekend of every month until October. It is open on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. Entry is £1.50 for adults, 75p for children or £1 for concessions.
