A Suffolk runner was moved to tears by a gesture of support from the Felixstowe school at which she works – ahead of competing in an global athletics competition.
Michelle Mitchell is set to compete in the 100, 200 and 400-metre sprints the World Transplant Games, which begin on June 25 in Malaga.
Mrs Mitchell, who underwent a life-saving liver transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital three years ago, received a stirring message of support from Kingsfleet Primary School, where she has worked as a caretaker since the transplant meant leaving full-time work running food hygiene contracts.
In a surprise gesture, the school organised a ‘come in your sports gear day’, with children invited to make a donation towards travel and kit, which she is funding herself, with sponsorship for expenses from local firms.
Mrs Mitchell said the letter brought tears to her eyes when she was handed it on Wednesday morning.
