TWINKLING stars were shining down on one Ipswich schoolgirl when she wrote a poem about the night sky.

Stoke High School pupil Victoria Binnington-Barrett entered her poem into a competition called Poetry in Print.

The judges liked it so much that her work is now going to be published in a new book that will be out just in time for Christmas.

Although 12-year-old Victoria said the book does not yet have a title she is still looking forward to seeing her hard work in print and was delighted when she heard.

She entered the competition while she was still a pupil at Downing Primary school and said that poetry gives her an outlet for her vivid imagination.

Victoria, who lives in Sprites Lane, Ipswich said: "I just write about anything that comes to mind.

"Just anything around me or that captures my imagination in books."

Current events have also affected the youngster and she has written a poem about the huge loss of life following the terrorist attacks in America.

A keen reader she also loves to read books that feed her imagination such as Treasure Island, The Secret Garden and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Winning competitions is nothing new for Victoria as when she gets bored she just likes to find a fresh challenge.

In the past year she has won £250 for her school by designing an Easter egg and raised money for the British Heart Foundation by entering a swimming competition.

She also put her love of reading to good use by entering a readathon to raise money for cancer and Leukaemia sufferers.

Career wise however, being the next Poet Laureate has not sprung to mind and she is hoping to eventually get a job in computers or publishing.

Victoria's poem: The Sky.

I look up at the sky at night,

What a wonderful sight I see.

Those twinkling, sparkling, shining stars,

That shine for you and me.

I wonder if there's life up there,

On those planets in the sky.

Is it peaceful as it looks?

That twinkling sparkling sky.

The Moon shines bright on a starry night,

It is a lovely sight to see.

It makes me wish that life on Earth,

Could be peaceful, calm and free.

The next time you go out at night,

Take a look up at the sky.

Oh what a wonderful sight you'll see,

In that peaceful dark night sky.
