SCIENCE fiction fans turned out in Ipswich to meet a former Dr Who and celebrate one of the biggest cult shows in television history.

The Doctor Who Unleashed convention, staged at the Holiday Inn, London Road, was held on Saturday and Sunday and featured Colin Baker, the sixth incarnation of the famous character.

During a question and answer session Mr Baker, who played the doctor between 1984 and 1986, explained how the recent resurgence of the show had gained him a fresh set of fans

Mr Baker said that his children are only now realising how famous he was in the 80s after seeing the success of the new version.

Organiser Tony Jordan said the weekend's convention was a real mix of long-term fans and those who have got into the series more recently.

He said: “Dr who conventions have been going for 30 years now, but it is great to see a whole new generation getting involved.

“The good thing about the series is that you can grow up with it and have your very own doctor.”
