Dr Charlotte Smith, from Chantry, who is currently leading a research project looking into the effects of vaping regulation, is one of 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses funded by the cancer charity in the front line fight against the disease.

The sporty scientist is now asking others to join her as she prepares to take on the Cycle 300 challenge - where participants are challenged to clock up 300 miles or more on their bike through September.

She said: “I love cycling and I think this is a great way to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s vital research.

“But you don’t have to be a cycling fanatic like me - the beauty of it is anyone can take part because they can fit it in with their lifestyle.”
