WATCH out for a variety of ghosts and clanking chains in Capel St Mary when Ebenezer Scrooge and his gang visit the village.

Christmas may be over but panto is still well and truly with us, although the Orchard Players have decided to take a different line this year.

A Christmas Carol is something of a challenge to the group from what they are used to but co-producer Hazel Hole is confident that they will carry it off.

She said: "It is all going very well at the moment and everyone is enjoying it. It is wonderful to see it all coming together. It will be a fantastic night."

There will be plenty of children involved and at seven years old, little Rory Burwood is the youngest person they have ever had in the group.

He will be playing Tiny Tim, the youngest son of the Cratchitt family who is plagued by Bob's miser of an employer Ebeneezer Scrooge.

To make the family theme complete, Rory's mum Judy Burwood will be playing stage mum Mrs Cratchett.

Two well known faces from the village will be playing the lead part with George Baker as Scrooge and veteran actor George Harban clanking his chains as the ghost of Jacob Marley.

During the play Scrooge will be visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past played by Becky Nicholls, the Ghost of Christmas Present played by Elaine Rogers and the Ghost of Christmas Future played by Tracy Hutchings.

The play is being produced by 16-year-old Rob Maplestone, who produced his first panto for the players last year.

He will be helped by his 18-year-old sister Lucy and also Hazel Hole.

She said: "I think young blood definitely helps. It gives new ideas and we are all very creative and imaginative."

To see if Scrooge finally sees the error of his ways you can see the play at Capel Village Hall between Thursday, January 10, until Saturday, January 12.

All shows start at 7.30pm with an additional matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Tickets are £4 for adults, £3 for OAP's and £2.50 for children and are available by phoning the box office on 01473 310814.
