Search after Orwell Bridge jump fear

POLICE and coastguards spent two hours searching the River Orwell today after reports that somebody may have jumped off the Orwell Bridge.

POLICE and coastguards spent two hours searching the River Orwell today after reports that somebody may have jumped off the Orwell Bridge.

Officers received two reports that a man was seen dressed in black standing on the bridge at about 4.50am.

Thames coastguard sent a lifeboat and two coastguard teams to the scene and with police conducted a thorough search of the river.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that we were called to the river. A man was seen standing on the footpath of the bridge looking over the parapet.

"We called the coastguard and a search was conducted but we didn't find anybody."
