TWO people were heard arguing loudly near the home of murder victim Dawn Walker just 45 minutes after she was last seen, detectives revealed today.

Officers leading the hunt for her killer say they are currently unsure as to whether the voices heard in the Oak Close area of Fornham St Martin, near Bury St Edmunds, were those of a man and a women or both of the same sex – and have repeated their appeals for information.

The new revelation comes after police carried out an anniversary check a week after Miss Walker, 37, was last seen.

Almost 3,500 motorists were stopped, along with 40 gym-goers at the Swallow Suffolk Golf and Country Club, which the fitness fanatic regularly visited as a member.

All new leads will now be followed up, including any regarding the argument, which took place at around 10.15pm on Wednesday, February 2. Miss Walker was last seen at 9.30pm that evening, and her disappearance was reported to police at 11.30am on Friday.

Her charred and semi-naked remains were discovered in an isolated spot next to the River Lark, in the wooded Fornham Park, at 5.10pm that night.

"We have no details at this stage if it was a man and a woman, two women or two men arguing and it may be that it has nothing to do with this investigation," said Det Supt Roy Lambert, who is leading the hunt for Miss Walker's killer.

"But we would like to hear from anyone who heard the argument or who has information relating to it. If you were the two people arguing, please contact us as a matter of priority."

Miss Walker, who lived in Oak Close, was found around a mile along the wooded path. It is not believed her killer had made any attempt to conceal her body.

Det Supt Lambert said: "This is one of the largest investigations we have seen in Suffolk for some time and, although we are still at a very early stage, a great deal of work has already been completed.

"This includes a thorough and detailed search of the scene by forensic specialists, house-to-house enquiries and witness statements have been taken from friends and family."

Officers carried out the anniversary checks between 9pm on Wednesday and 9am yesterday, handing out more than 2,000 flyers to motorists requesting information.

Detectives have once again appealed for anyone who saw the 37-year-old during the final missing hours of her life to contact them. She is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim but athletic build with shoulder-length auburn hair. When she was last seen, she was wearing green cotton walking trousers and a blue zip-up sweatshirt top.
