A man from the Ipswich area has died after falling from the Orwell Bridge, police said today.

His body was found following a search of The Strand at Wherstead overnight.

He was the second person to have been discovered beneath the Orwell Bridge in two days after it emerged today that a 20-year-old man had died on Tuesday night.

Both men are believed to be from the Ipswich area.

Although the manner of 20-year-old’s death is still being investigated it is understood his injuries were consistent with those of someone who had fallen from the bridge.

He was discovered in The Strand at around 8.40pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics tried to save his life and gave him CPR. However, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9pm.

A vehicle, believed to belong to the deceased, was found in The Strand.

The tragedy is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest will take place in due course.

The second fatality happened late last night

Police were called to the A14 shortly before midnight by a passing motorist who saw a man sitting on the parapet of the bridge.

Officers arrived minutes later but found no trace of him.

His body was subsequently found in The Strand.

His death is being investigated, but is not being treated as suspicious.

The bridge was closed for a short period of time while police were on scene.
