A Blues fan doing seven marathons in seven days took a wrong turn during his run around Ipswich - but had a happy ending when it meant he finished up at Portman Road.

Shawn Leek, from Great Bentley, Essex, is doing a different 26.2 mile course every day this week before doing the London Marathon on Sunday, all in aid of St Helena Hospice.

After completing a Colchester route yesterday he took a turn around Ipswich today, before heading to Bungay tomorrow.

Shawn, 40, finished today’s run in four hours 50 minutes – more than an hour slower than his usual time over the distance, but the result of a concerted effort to pace himself.

He was joined by several runners on sections of the route, and received cheers of support from people on the Waterfront after his support team geed up the crowd.

“It was extremely hot again, and a lot hillier than I imagined,” Shawn said.

“Being 6ft 3ins and 15 stone means it is hard to keep my fluid levels right.

“The tracker went down and we took a wrong turning, but we finished outside Portman Road and as an Ipswich fan that was actually really good for me.”

After completing his runs Shawn is enjoying an ice bath and sports massage in a bid to get him racing fit for the next day’s efforts.

He added: “I know it is going to be really tough, and I am trying to take it mile by mile.

“I have to break down it down into smaller sections, mentally it is easier. A marathon a day, or even the whole thing, is mind-boggling.”

So far he has raised more than £6,100 for the hospice, and he hopes the donations will pick up the pace as he ticks off the miles.
