A SECOND suspicious vehicle has been discovered close to an underground car park in nearby Park Lane as police were put on alert across London.

The discovery comes after car bomb was found in the heart of the capital around 4am today.

Parts of Park Lane were closed as a police robot inspected the vehicle. Scotland Yard said the two incidents are not linked.

This morning commuters faced disruption as Piccadilly underground station was closed due to the alert.

Bomb squad officers defused the device after reports of a suspicious vehicle, believed to be a silver Mercedes, in The Haymarket.

One police source said the bomb posed a substantial threat to the surrounding area, just yards from Piccadilly Circus.

Gas canisters were reportedly removed from the car.
