TWO drams of whisky a day and you'll live to 100.

Well that has certainly worked for Lillian Fountain – she celebrated her centenary with a party last night.

Lillian, of Cullingham Road, Ipswich, swears by a drop of the hard stuff in her tea, first thing in the morning, and then another just before she goes to bed.

Lively Lillian is a member of two social clubs and never fails to make her five-times-a-week appointment with the bingo caller.

Son Ivan – no spring chicken himself at 75 – paid tribute to his mum's longevity.

He said: "It definitely runs in the family. She's still pretty active, bless her. She still manages to get herself around, although she has to catch a taxi to get to her clubs."

Lillian's grandchildren were responsible for organising a birthday bash at the Westgate Ward club, in Victoria Street, Ipswich.

And helping to celebrate her century were a remarkable five generations of the family.

By the time most people top their ton, their circle of friends has got a little small.

But Lillian's active social life – which would put many a youngster to shame – meant she was not short of pals to see in the milestone.

Speaking before the party, Ivan said: "There's going to be a hefty crowd.

"God knows how many family as well as all her friends from the social clubs.

"She's made a few – she's been a member there more than 60 years.

"She's still going strong, but I don't think she'll quite make it to my 100th – that would be something to celebrate!"
