New homes found for residents after sudden closure of Felixstowe care home

Residents left in limbo after a Felixstowe nursing home suddenly went in liquidation are now “all accounted for,” according to a senior care provider.
Sheila Jayarajan, designated provider at St Mary’s Nursing Home Felixstowe Ltd., said “they are all where they wanted to go,” as the home prepares to close its doors for the final time.
It comes after shareholders forked out for a seven day reprieve to help residents find a new place to live when the home went into voluntary liquidation.
Two residents with no families to support them were among those frantically searching for security before St Mary’s closes tomorrow, September 28.
Ms Jayarajan said the closure was down to the care home not operating at capacity.
In a facility with 36 beds, only 17 were occupied at the time the company went into liquidation.
In 2016, another Felixstowe nursing home owned by the same company closed down, citing increasing challenges of providing “affordable quality care”.
