SECURITY at a Stowmarket superstore is being reviewed today after raiders escaped with £8,000 worth of stock, including 200 computer games.

Amanda Wood, store manager at Asda's home and leisure store, in Wilkes Way, said the robbery, between 6.55pm and 7.05pm last Friday, had shocked staff and customers.

"There's a lot of colleagues that are very surprised and shocked about how quickly it happened and how quickly these people work, she said.

"We'll obviously be reviewing our security in the back of the store and taking on any advice crime prevention officers may offer us."

The thieves entered the rear of the building and bolt-cropped a gate where electrical equipment was stored.

Closed circuit television footage is currently being viewed and it is believed they were spotted driving through the town centre in a red Peugeot car.

Mrs Wood added: "We've got an idea about who did it and we've got some good closed circuit television footage of them.

"They seemed to have a knowledge of the store and before we could do anything they had driven off. You get the odd person who will try their luck from time to time but this would appear to have been planned."

A spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed the incident is still being investigated but no arrests have been made at present.

The store is currently undergoing a £5million refit that is due to completed in November.

When finished, an extra 9,000 square foot of floor space will be added and it is hoped to create around 50 new jobs.

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to call Suffolk police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
