Just under 800 people took part in the event today, which has helped to collect nearly £2 million for good causes over its 42-year history.

John Button, president of the Rotary Club of Ipswich East, which puts on the event, said: “It’s been a fantastic day.

“We have had great support and fabulous comments from everyone taking part, saying they have all thoroughly enjoyed it. We are very pleased.

“It’s been one of the best ever in terms of atmosphere.”

This year the club made a new addition of a marathon, with around 100 runners opting to take on the 26-mile trail. There were around 55 cyclists and the rest were walkers.

All routes, which varied in length, started at Gainsborough Sports Centre in Ipswich and passed through the picturesque countryside, woodland and shores of the Orwell Estuary.
