Organiser Catherine Sheppard said that by the end, many of the entrants looked like “tie-dyed Smurfs”

“It was absolutely brilliant,” she said.

“The weather held out, it’s been a really gorgeous day and everyone had so much fun.”

Ms Sheppard said the event proved popular with families, with people of all ages and abilities taking part. They were invited to run, walk or dance the route, passing five “bubble stations”, which jetted out different coloured foam and played “unique music” as they passed.

With sponsorship still coming in, it is hoped the event might raise more than £35,000 for the hospice, which cares for people with progressive illnesses. St Elizabeth Hospice has thanked everyone for taking part.
